Introduction

Chicken coccidiosis → widespread and economically significant diseases in the poultry industry.

Impaired productivity

Objetive

The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of Quillaja extract both independently and in combination with a synthetic coccidiostat in mitigating the impact of an Eimeria-induced intestinal disease in chickens.

Methodology

All birds were raised on bedding from a commercial chicken farm contaminated with E. acervulina, E. maxima, E. tenella, C. perfringens, and E. coli.

Results – Productive Parameters

Results – Mortality, FCR and Intestinal Bacteria

Implications/Conclusions

  • Quillaja extract resulted in an efficient natural alternative as treatments for coccidiosis in poultry, showing similar performance like medicated treatments.
  • This study demonstrated that the encapsulation of Quillaja extract improve the efficacy.
  • Synergist effect was observed using a combination of Quillaja and Nicarbazine.
